Norbi, Dávid, and Ticián – three animal lovers and advocates – launched the Kutyakacaj website (https://www.kutyakacaj.hu) in March 2024 with a single mission: to improve the lives of dogs in Hungary.

Through this project, we have been working closely with numerous shelters and animal welfare organizations, and it quickly became clear from our interviews and research that:

  1. Hungary faces a huge number of stray dogs, often due to the lack of widespread neutering.
  2. People frequently make emotional or uninformed decisions when it comes to dog ownership, without access to reliable guidance.
  3. Shelters and rescue organizations struggle with constant shortages of time and resources, which means they often cannot maintain their websites or focus on educational outreach.

To address these challenges, we launched the Kutyakacaj initiative (with a dedicated website and social presence) to:

  1. Provide a platform for our partner shelters – we take care of the presentation and help raise awareness so they can focus on the animals themselves.
  2. Create educational and informative content on responsible dog ownership – we welcome contributions from professionals and partners alike.
  3. Build a strong community for dog welfare – by connecting shelters, rescuers, and dog owners, and by sharing content through our marketing and editorial team that reaches 1,000+ extra readers for our partners each month.

Our aim from the beginning has been to give our shelter partners professional visibility: helping them increase adoptions, attract more supporters, and reach beyond their own limited administrative capacity. For the general public, our platform provides a clear, accessible, and easy-to-navigate resource where they can find trustworthy information about responsible ownership and see adoptable dogs from across the country.

With this initiative, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to reducing the number of stray dogs in Hungary and to push back against the harmful practices of backyard breeders and irresponsible operators.
